Getting a home or property built is a huge investment of your hopes and dreams.  The presumption when you hire a builder in Tampa is that years of skill and experience will go into the construction of your home.  However, less honest or experienced builders are out there.

How to Hire a Builder in Tampa

Despite the claim of professionalism, you’re not always assured of good service. There are builders that look good on paper, but don’t live up to their claims once the project is started.  You will need to be able to tell the difference. Here are some red flags that should warn you against hiring a specific builder or team.

Big Promises They Can’t Follow Through On

Claims of speedy construction, large projects done in short periods of time, or promises they can’t support with detailed processes are a red flag.  If they have been doing this successfully, they will be able to answer simple questions that will explain the process and timing. As a client, it’s best to do some research and figure out beforehand how much a project should cost, how long it takes and the basics of the build. If what they offer you sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Bad Reviews

If you’re a builder, testimonials, reviews and references are your calling cards.  The more good reviews you can claim, the better your standing is.  Finding a builder with references who are recent and will vouch happily for them is gold if you want your project done well.  Conversely, if your builder getting more bad reviews than good, you need to do more digging.

There are a lot of ways to figure out review standing.  You have websites, review forums, and social media. It’s normal to get a couple of bad reviews. Even the best can’t please everyone, but too many bad reviews is not a good sign. The same is true for builders who can only give older references. You want a builder with recent experience.

 Permits are a Sore Topic

Because you’re talking structure that will house people once it’s done, permits are an important protection you have against incompetent work. If they have a permit, they have abided by rules that ensure you’re protected, like training to enhance their skills, adherence to insurance claims and using the right equipment. If they avoid the topic of permits, then you should look for another builder.
